Woods of Terror
Since opening in 1991, Woods of Terror has grown into a full-blown fear factory, with more than 20 acres of thrills and chills. Visitors wind their way through spook trails, corn mazes, haunted homes, and some mind-blowing psychedelic scenes, while the seemingly endless stock of monsters on staff makes sure the screams never stop. The attraction, which takes around an hour to complete, was recently named one of the scariest sites in the country by americasbesthaunts.com. One trip and you’ll see why — just don’t say we didn’t warn you. 5601 N. Church St., Greensboro; woodsofterror.com.
Wizard of Oz Trail at Castle McCulloch
Castle McCulloch’s annual Wizard of Oz Trail offers a friendly alternative to typical Halloween fright-fests. Happening October 25 and 26, this event features actors from the Community Theater of Greensboro’s Wizard of Oz production. Guests are guided by Dorothy through a re-enactment of the 1939 classic, coming face-to-face with the Scarecrow, the Tin Man, and of course, the Wicked Witch of the West. But the 45-minute trail has a sweet ending: Guests are given candy before clicking their heels and heading back home. 6328 Old Kivett Loop, Jamestown; castlemcculloch.com.
